✅ What is a TDS Meter?

A TDS meter measures the concentration of dissolved solids (like minerals, salts, and metals) in water. It’s used to assess water purity in homes, aquariums, hydroponics, and labs.

🛠️ How to Use a TDS Meter: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Power On

  • Turn on the TDS meter using the power button.

Step 2: Remove the Cap

  • Take off the protective cap from the probe end.

Step 3: Prepare the Water Sample

  • Fill a clean glass or container with the water sample you want to test.

    • Water should be at room temperature (25°C) for accurate reading.

Step 4: Immerse the Probe

  • Dip the TDS meter into the water up to the maximum immersion level indicated.

    • Do not submerge past the allowed level.

Step 5: Stir Gently

  • Stir the water gently with the meter to remove trapped air bubbles on the sensor.

Step 6: Wait for the Reading

  • Wait a few seconds until the reading stabilizes on the screen.

    • Readings are shown in PPM (Parts Per Million).

Step 7: Record the Reading

  • Note the TDS value. Most meters have a “HOLD” button to freeze the reading on screen.

Step 8: Remove and Clean

  • Take the meter out, shake off excess water, and wipe the probe dry with a soft cloth.

Step 9: Turn Off and Store

  • Turn off the device and put the cap back on.

  • Store in a dry, cool place.

📊 What Do the Readings Mean?

TDS Level (PPM) Water Quality
0 – 50 Very Pure (e.g., RO)
50 – 150 Acceptable for drinking
150 – 300 Good
300 – 500 Fair, but borderline
> 500 Poor – Not ideal for drinking

🌟 Benefits of Using a TDS Meter

  1. Ensures Water Purity

    • Helps verify if your RO or water filter is working properly.

  2. Health Protection

    • High TDS may mean contaminants (like lead, chlorine, nitrates).

  3. Aquarium Safety

    • Helps maintain safe water levels for fish.

  4. Cost Efficiency

    • Avoid replacing filters unnecessarily—check water TDS first.

  5. Food & Beverages

    • Better-tasting coffee, tea, and cooking when using low-TDS water.

  6. Hydroponics & Gardening

    • Monitors nutrient levels in water for plant health.
